Challenges

Challenge 1: Solve the puzzles in the game

– What choices are available to the player?

As Elli, the player can use switches to open unbreakable doors. The player as Beart can use his claws to break down breakable doors blocking the path. As Beart the player can pull boulders blocking the path or push boulders into pits to bridge the path.

– How does the game convey choice through the interface?

Obvious camera orientation depending on which character (Beart/ Elli) is being controlled currently. Buttons brightly colored. Pleasing sound when buttons are pressed. An uplifting success sound is played when a puzzle is solved.

– For each choice, what actions available to the player?

Utilising the unique strength and abilities of the two main characters to solve the puzzles. Apart they can only solve part of the puzzle, as a Team they can complete the level.

– How do rules that dictate system response to these actions?

Puzzles are created to block the path of the player. Must be solved to continue.

Buttons are positioned in places only Elli can reach. Elli cannot interact with breakable doors but Beart can.

– What feedback is provided to players?

Satisfying sound upon completion of puzzle. Door texture changes as they are broken. Buttons go from an unpressed state to a pressed state. Boulders are interactive until moved into their intended place (lock into a pitfall)

Challenge 2: Defeat the enemies in the level

– What choices are available to the player?

As Beart the player can attack the enemies through using their claws

– How does the game convey choice through the interface?

The ingame tutorial teaches that the claws are an ingame weapon, enemy flashes red to show the claws are doing damage.

– For each choice, what actions available to the player?

Beart can only use his claws to do damage to the enemies.

– How do rules that dictate system response to these actions?

Claws do standard amount of damage. Beart can slash once per second. Beart can only slash if he has health remaining.  Beart can damage enemies, can take damage. Elli cannot.

– What feedback is provided to players?

The enemies flash red when taking damage and damage
