Activity 2: Game Objects & Rules

Based on our player experience goals we want to create a different shoot ‘em up game from the tradition style. Our idea is playing as a Will o’ Wisp shooting to light up the darkness and stay alight against the environment. In the game, players are going to defeat the darkness enemies and cleanse the darkness infested forest environment. Players will also have the ability to obtain different shooting effects through form changes The tables below shows the detail of our primary game assests. 

Player:

Environment/ Hazards:

Object/Mechanic Purpose Relationship to other objects Player interaction
Forest (Game World) A maze that is full of darkness and enemies to obstruct players. Player shooting will light up the way for few seconds. These are many darkness enemies in the forest. To investigate and defeat the darkness throughout the forest.
Puddles A trap that prevents the player passing through. If it comes into contact while in Fire Wisp form, player will be killed (only damaged with other Wisp forms). To be rewarded by shooting to absorb it with Water Wisp.
Tree Hazards (Fallen trees, branches) A trap that prevents the player passing through. If it comes into contact with the Wind Wisp, player will be killed (damaged with other Wisp forms). To be rewarded by shooting to destroy it with Fire Wisp.
Earth Hazards (mud, rocks etc) A trap that prevents the player passing through If it comes into contact with the Water Wisp, player will be killed (damaged with other Wisp forms). To be rewarded by shooting to destroy it with Earth Wisp.
Wind Hazards (spirals, gusts etc) A trap that prevents the player passing through. If it comes into contact with the Earth Wisp, player will be killed (damaged with other Wisp forms). To be rewarded by shooting to destroy it with Wind Wisp.
Sunlight (tiny bits of sun shining through the canopy which heals) A healing spot for players. If it comes into contact with the player, their health will be healed. To be rewarded healing by standing under.
Lost souls Collected by players to upgrades the firing mechanic By collecting each 5 lost souls, the shooting format of players will be upgraded (from one way to two ways shooting etc).

The collection will be reset when the player gets hit.

To be rewarded shooting format upgrade by collecting those lost souls.
Totems Points that could be ignited by specific elemental power. By igniting each totems, players can light up parts of the forest and brings life back to forest. To be rewarded lighting up parts of the forest.

Enemies

Big Ol’ Darkness High health, slow, block path. Split out lil darkness. Explode on death. High:

Will split out lil darkness each time getting hit

Explodes into Sunlight after being defeated.
Angry Darkness Similar to player, move around, rapid fire, dodge player attacks. Same as player To become a lost soul after being defeated.
Water Wisp Boss Big Boss that is infected by darkness which is using water power to attack. Extremely high;

Exist weak points that should be destroyed first.

To unlock Water Wisp for player after being defeated.
Earth Wisp Boss Big Boss that is infected by darkness which is using earth power to attack. Extremely high;

Exist weak points that should be destroyed first.

To unlock Earth Wisp for player after being defeated.
Wind Wisp Boss Big Boss that is infected by darkness which is using wind power to attack. Extremely high;

Exist weak points that should be destroyed first.

To unlock Wind Wisp for player after being defeated.
Dark Shadow Final Boss that could change its elemental power. Extremely high;

Exist weak points that should be destroyed first;

Only get damaged by counter elemental attack.
